Foosball This kit provides a relatively easy means for a player to develop the requisite knowledge to play fast-moving, exciting foosball and to advance to a higher playing ability in a shorter period of time. The Foosball Training System strips work exceptionally well provided they are positioned exactly as directed. A standardized foosball table surface is 47.5 inches long and 27 inches wide. The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5/1, 2, 3, 4, 5/1, 2, etc. will run up the long sides of the table and across the short sides of the table. A table diagram is included in each kit.
The positioning of the tape system creates an accurate means to develop a series of practice exercises. It also clearly shows the path a ball takes from one end of the table to the other end. Learn offensive and defensive combinations in short periods of time and advance to higher levels of play in months instead of years. This system is a mathematical grid that repeats around the table. Color-coded numbers from 1 to 5 placed exactly as described form a unique pattern around the entire table. The strips can be placed around the tabletop. Since they re-adhere, you can change the placement as you choose. On every number 3 you will find a small TSTS icon. It is red and blue whenever it repeats. This is important because it is a placement point where you will release the ball on certain shots and passes. The thin green line between the number 5 and the number 1 is where the “sweet spots” are located. These 5/1 lines are the spots from which to shoot the ball, and the green line between the 5/1 lines and the 3 lines are the key to understanding how the system operates. How to Begin Start by taking the two longest tapes in the kit and positioning them along the tabletop or table surface on the near side of the table. Center the middle number 3 over the ball drop on the table top surface. The number 3’s will overlap each other at the ball drop. This is the only place on the table where there is an overlap. By starting at the center drop, you correctly align the strips along the table’s long sides. Repeat the process on the far side of the table by placing the number 3 over the ball drop hole. The numbered tapes are thin enough to apply to the table surface or side walls directly if you so choose at a later time. There are four 27-inch tapes. Center one of these tapes number 3 directly over the goal’s center on the tabletop following the numbers from the two long side strips. Repeat this process at the other short end of the table. Do this at each end, and the number 3s will be directly over the goal’s centers. The table will now be in four quadrants with the number 3’s over the ball drop and the center of the goals. You will have two remaining 27-inch long numbered tapes that can be adhered and lifted to use along every rod (bar) as you practice. One suggestion is to place one of these two tapes to a 27” flat plastic or wooden stick to allow for portability to use behind any rod (bar) line, placing it just beyond the reach of the rod. This allows the ball to move in a straight line behind the rod across the table practicing without having the ball roll out Practice Exercises Once you have put the strips in place, you can begin the following practice exercises. It is recommended the ball be placed slightly behind the rods to improve ball release. On the Two-bar Goalie Rod Set one of the extra tapes just behind the two bar. It should be lined up with the near side blue 2 and the far side 4 red on the tapes already adhered to the short ends of the table top. Place this tape on the surface of the table or use the stick with the number strip adhered to it placed directly behind the two bar just out of the rod’s reach. To practice the release point of a pull kick shot, place the ball on the near side 5/1 line and using the near man, brush/slice the ball down the table aiming at the opponent’s number 1 hole. Once you can hit this hole accurately from the release spot, practice pull kicks using this motion by pulling the ball from the far man to the 5/1 line release spot on the near side hitting the ball at that exact spot. Your shot will be on target and much improved by this practice exercise. A “kick” shot is any shot that moves the ball from one man to another before striking it i.e. a pull kick or a push kick. By reversing the above-mentioned steps, practice push kicks in the same manner. On the Five Bar The 5-1 line runs parallel with all of the bars across the table. Place the ball on the red number 3, and place the rod on the near wall. Move the man to the ball striking it with a brushing down motion. The bar should end up back on the near wall. This motion will ensure that it does. The ball will move through the spot on the table between the opponent’s men and your three bar catch will be at the 5/1 and number 3 which is where the symmetrical lines cross. On the Three Bar Front Rod Using a pull shot set up, place the ball on your number 5 line on the three bar. This is the opponent’s number 5. Pull the ball slowly and shoot into the numbered holes that are not being covered by the defensive men. To shoot a snake shot, practice rocking the ball on the middle man on the three bar moving it up to 2.5 inches in either the pull or push direction. Do not move the ball any further than 2.5 inches as it will hit the back wall not the goal if you do.
Place the puck which is a ball simulator and enclosed in your kit directly under the middle number 3 on the three bar aligning it to the goal’s number 3. Take the backing off of the puck (don’t throw it away) so that it will remain in place on the table. When you take the puck off of the table, place the paper backing on it to protect the adhesive. Practice moving (or rocking) the middle man across the puck with a ball siting along the rod’s line out to the pull side number 4 or 5 or the push side 4 or 5.
Rock the man across the puck and come off of the puck as close to its edge as possible and roll the man over to strike the ball where you have positioned it. This exercise will help you to train muscles to recognize the distance to move the rod without overshooting the hole. It also increases a quick release of the ball. Alternate practicing this exercise both with and without the puck.
